Your Snapchat best friends list is the small group of people you interact with most on the app — up to eight of them. It powers a lot of what you see: the friends at the top of your Send To screen, many of the friend emojis next to names, and the planets in the Snapchat+ Friend Solar System.
How Is the Best Friends List Ranked?
Snapchat doesn't share its exact formula, but the ranking is based on how much you interact with each person, weighted toward recent activity. The things that seem to count most:
- Snaps you send to and receive from each friend
- One-on-one chats (group chats count much less)
- Replies to each other's stories
- How consistently you talk — daily beats occasional bursts
Because recent activity weighs more, the list can shuffle within days. A new friend you're chatting with constantly can jump to the top quickly.
How to See Your Best Friends on Snapchat
- Take any snap on the camera screen.
- Tap Send To.
- Look at the Best Friends section at the top — that's your list, roughly in order.
Snapchat+ subscribers can also see exactly where they rank in a friend's list through Snapchat Planets, where Mercury is #1 and Neptune is #8.
Can Other People See Your Best Friends List?
No. Snapchat stopped showing best friends publicly years ago. Today your list is private: friends can't browse it. The only exception is Snapchat+ — a subscriber in your top eight can see their own planet in your solar system, but not who else is on your list.
How to Change or Remove Someone from Your Best Friends
There's no “edit” button. The list updates itself, so the realistic options are:
Interact less
Snap others more and they'll naturally drift out of your top eight.
Pin a #1 BFF
With Snapchat+, pin the person you want at the top of your chats.
Remove or block
Removing a friend takes them off the list entirely — a last resort.
